I really enjoy listening to music. Recently, I was listening to an orchestra. It began with a violin solo– very impressive. But then, the other parts of the orchestra began jumping in, a little drum, a little trumpet, then flutes. What was a nice sounding solo soon became a wonderful auditory thrill. Each instrument added their unique sound to the mix to become something that any one of them could not be on their own.
And so goes your work environment. If you are a manager, hopefully you recognize the unique “sounds” of your team. You know that they all are important to the success of the team. It is your job to direct them in such a way that the end result is better than if they were all doing solos.
