Hole in one or shoot a 65?

If you are a golfer,  do you want a hole in one or do you want to shoot a 65?  Most decent golfers would rather shoot a 65.  It takes a great deal of skill and preparation to shoot  65. A novice could get lucky and get a hole in one their first time out.  Success can be an accident, but Repeatable Success is a system, and requires preparation.

Successful businesses want Repeatable Success. When businesses overcome issues, they very likely followed a system that includes steps similar to these:

  • Analyze the problem.
  • Design a solution.
  • Develop the solution.
  • Implement the solution.
  • Evaluate the end results to ensure the solution worked.

Business Success follows a system or plan. There are certain steps to success that need to be followed. You can’t measure success unless there is a predetermined goal and an understanding of where things stand currently.

After reviewing the goal and the current situation, there is a gap. The gap is the “difference” between where we are now, and where we want to be in the future.  Analyze the gap. Find out why the gap exists (Analyze the Problem…), so that proper steps can be taken to overcome the gap.  (design, develop and implement solutions…). And finally, evaluate the results to see how effective the system was.  Ideally, you will achieve your goals or at least be heading in the right direction.

It is often said, that if you are not striving for improvement, you are falling behind. How true this is in a competitive and increasingly global economy.
